Learning the Ropes

Lita has made quite a bit of progress learning how to be retired:

- No counter surfing incidents in quite a while.

- She is doing a good job learning to be calm before something happens - getting food, going for a walk, being let out of her crate, etc.

- She is much better about trying to bolt out the door every time it is opened.

- We have done some hand target training with her, and she has responded very well to that. (She is very food motivated, so anything involving treats is GREAT FUN!)

- She is very responsive to her name and will come running from the other end of the house when called.

- She initially had some housebreaking issues, but those seem to have sorted themselves out.

- She loves car rides and will usually hop right into the car, or the back of the SUV.

Ankylosaurus

Lita is visiting for a few days. She has been really good. She let me change her tail bandages and trim nails without a problem. She loves to show her tummy and get pets.

Lita loves stuffies!

What a happy face! Beating the heat with an early morning walk.

Practicing retirement snoozing. Lita is a very cute sleeper. 😊

*Ahem* excuse me, human, you stopped petting me!

Friday June 9, 2017

Lita enjoyed her time at the farmer's market.

She even took some time to stop and smell the flowers.

Lita likes attention.

Sometimes she will ask to be petted.

Other times she just likes to have a nap.

The Great Outdoors

Lita's inquisitive nature means she loves being outside and going for walks. So many sights and smells!

Lita is a very good walker. She rarely ever pulls, mainly just walking alongside or just ahead of the person walking her. She does very well eliminating on leash. She also handles stairs with ease.

"Why'd we stop? There's so much to discover!"

All that walking and exploring can be tiring! She's gaining an appreciation for the finer things in a retired racer's life, like a comfy bed.

Seems she's already figured out the most comfortable way to nap!

First Weekend of Retirement

Lita was a little shy at first after her long trip to Nashville, but it didn't take her long to open up!

Lita is a sweet, silly girl who loves exploring. She gets especially excited around meal time and will sometimes start counter-surfing, but she responds well to a quick NO!

She also loves toys! Whenever she gets excited or in a playful mood she'll find a toy and give it a good shake. She's strong though, so she needs especially strong toys!

She's very friendly around people and other dogs, and will even share a bed (if there's room!). She seems to be a bit too friendly around small dogs, though.

Lita's adjusting pretty well to this retirement thing!
