Who is GPA Nashville?
Greyhound Pets of America - Nashville (GPA/N) works collaboratively with adopters, with rescue, humane and other greyhound groups and the racing industry to find homes for retired racers. Each year, 20,000 greyhounds retire from U.S. tracks in need of homes. Our targeted adoption territory includes middle Tennessee, northern Alabama and southern and western Kentucky.

Our adoption application, intake and home visit process helps us identify appropriate homes for these gentle, loving dogs and to match people with compatible greyhounds. Retired racers are uniquely suited to live as companion animals. Affectionate and calm, they thrive on human attention and interaction, adjust well to home life and repay the kindness of their people with faithfulness and devotion.

What we do
Based in Nashville, Tenn., GPA/N primarily gets adoptable greyhounds from tracks in West Memphis, Ark. and Birmingham, Ala. We also accept for placement retired racers whose owners can no longer keep them as well as retired racers who are turned into pounds, shelters and humane associations in our service area. In 2007, 121 greyhounds found homes through GPA/N. GPA/N is a chapter of Greyhound Pets of America, the nation’s largest greyhound adoption organization.

How we do it
Our funding comes from donations, adoption fees and in-kind gifts amd support from individuals and companies, grants and from our annual silent auction and Winter Gathering. The group has no employees and gratefully acknowledges the hard work, dedication and generosity of its volunteers and partners in the business community. As a 501(c)3 organization, all donations to GPA/Nashville are tax deductible.
